Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance | Update Error: GlobalUpdate script for service model RetailServer

Sometimes you might get the following error while updating the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance to the latest version. Step 57: GlobalUpdate script for service model: RetailServer on machine: <server>

  • Applies To (Tier-1 Environments):
    • Dynamics 365 Finance
    • Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management
    • Dynamics 365 Commerce

In this case, if you are not using Retail Channel functionality, you can try re-creating the Channel DB following the below steps. The following steps will indicate how to remove the Retail Channel Database components from the AOS database. By following these steps, you acknowledge that you are not using the Retail Channels (Point of Sale or Retail Cloud or Store Scale Units) OR you are using Cloud Scale Units (when using Cloud Scale Units, the Channel Database collocated with the AOS DB [Default Database] is not used anymore). After you complete these steps, you will need to retry/resume/start an application deployable package, which will recreate the Retail Channel database components.

  1. Connect to the intended environment.
  2. Find the latest deployable package applied to the environment. It will be under folder <ServiceVolue>:\DeployablePackages\<PackageGUID>
  3. Under the deployable package folder, find the following SQL script <ServiceVolue>:\DeployablePackages\<PackageGUID>\RetailServer\Scripts\DropAllRetialChannelDbObjects.sql

This script, when run against the AOS database, will remove all objects related to the Retail Channel Database. Only proceed if you are not using the Retail Channel functionality.
  4. Connect to the AOS database and run the above script. This operation will take several minutes.
  5. Resume the package deployment or start the package deployment to have the Retail Channel components recreated correctly.

Hopefully, the update should now complete and system should be ready to use.

  2. Hello,

Thank you for the fix. It works as a charm.

Do you know why this error happens ?
In my case, it looks like error is due to an ALTER PROCEDURE [crt].[GETORGUNITSBYSTORENUMBERS].
Indeed, the stored procedure does not exist in the database… but why ? :-/

At the moment, i experienced this issue only on Tier1 “Cloud-hosted environments”. My guess is that the update scripts does not (re)create the stored procedure before trying to alter it…

Maybe because there is a subtle difference between a Tier1 environment managed by Microsoft (which is not possible to deploy anymore but i never got this issue back then) and a Tier1 environment on customer side (which is the only way to go since november 2020) and Microsoft has to fix their update scripts ?

  3. Thank you so much. You saved my lots of time.

  4. Hi Rahul,

I was facing the similar issue. Saw your post and it was helpful, but it is running until 71/73 steps.

I have tried it several times, the script is running for a min now. But still doesnt execute completely.

It is getting failed at step 71. Want to know your inputs
